About

Stephen Kirkpatrick has been chased by grizzly bears, attacked by alligators, and nibbled by piranha. In the process, he's captured some of the world's most beautiful and exciting nature and wildlife photography.

Stephen's appreciation of nature and wildlife began in childhood, when he divided his time between caring for a menagerie of unusual "pets" and operating a snake farm in his parents' backyard (admission 50 cents). His fascination with nature became a full time career when his father gave him his first camera in 1981.

Since then, Stephen has published more than 2,300 photographs (over 160 covers) in books, calendars, and magazines, including Delta Sky, Audubon, Gray's Sporting Journal, Skin Diver, Natural History, Ducks Unlimited, Outdoor Photographer, BBC Wildlife, National Wildlife, and Sports Afield. His work has been exhibited in galleries and museums nationwide and in Argentina.

Stephen's work has won international acclaim, garnering awards in several national and international photography competitions. Stephen has twice been named a winner in the prestigious International Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition held in London, England.

Stephen has appeared on the syndicated television program "Wild Things," the Christian Broadcasting Network's "The 700 Club," and on several PBS specials. He hosts a recurring segment on The Outdoor Channel's "Adventure Bound Outdoors."

Stephen is in demand as a public speaker. He travels throughout North America presenting spectacular multimedia shows to church groups, camera clubs, conservation organizations, and large corporations. Far more than simple entertainment, every presentation includes an inspirational message. Stephen's work celebrates the healing tranquility, singular beauty, and unique inspiration that can be found only in nature, and stress faith in God as the key to overcoming life's difficulties.

Audiences nationwide have responded with tears, laughter, and praise for what many have described as a "moving experience that changed not only the way I view nature, but the way I view my life."
Stephen has published seven pictorial coffee table books. His latest, Romancing the Rain, A Photographic Journey into the Heart of the Amazon, was shot over nine years in the jungles of Peru. Kirkpatrick's near-death experience on an ill-fated 1995 Amazon expedition is recounted in the gripping book Extreme Exposure. Both Romancing the Rain and Extreme Exposure were written by Kirkpatrick's wife, author Marlo Carter Kirkpatrick.

The Kirkpatricks' current projects focus on tropical locations and underwater photography.

Stephen has three sons, two on earth and one in heaven. Sons Sean and Ian share their father's enthusiasm for the outdoors and often accompany Stephen on his travels. Prior to his death in 2003, 17-year-old Ryan joined his father on dozens of expeditions, including Stephen's most recent trip to the Amazon. Visit 's website.
