About Bill Thomas
Bill Thomas is a photographer living in New York City and has been shooting professionally since 1989. He started his career as a skateboard photographer and helped put the New York skate scene on the map. In 1993 he moved to Vail Colorado to further his action sports photography. Through out his career he has worked as a photographer in the music, snowboard, bicycle and motorcycle industries. During his time as a action sports photographer he traveled worldwide on assignment for editorial publications photographing feature stories for them. In 2003 he moved back to NYC to pursue editorial and commercial portrait work as well as documentary and book projects.
In addition to his commercial work, he has been working on a personal photo essay called the ‘Weekend Warrior Project’. He has been photographing a group of Pennsylvania National Guard soldiers at home and in combat since 2006, following them in and out of their civilian and military lives. In August of 2008 Artisan Books will be releasing a 130 page portrait photography book titled ‘INKED, The Life of The Tattoo’ photographed entirely by Bill. The book is based mostly on the characters from the A&E Network television show ‘INKED’ staring Carey Hart.
